Course Description:
This is a 32 hour course designed for certified Level II technicians in VT, PT, MT, and UT Longitudinal methods. The class will include lecture and hands on lab inspections providing information about turbine function, nomenclature identification & terminology, Specific NDT applications for inspection, and final reporting. Laboratory work will be performed on a Westinghouse High Pressure turbine which consists of a DFHP rotor, DFIP Rotor and 3 DF LP Rotors Cross compound unit with both a HP Generator and LP Generator Rotor. NDT methods will include: Visual inspection, Coil wrap technique, Ultrasonic straight beam on the babbit bearings, studs & bolting, and Liquid Penetrant on the babbit bearings. Quizzes will be delivered every day and there will be a final written exam and practical demonstration test the last day of class. A successful course completion certificate will be awarded to those who obtain a 75% or higher on the final written exam in addition to passing the practical lab demonstration using the various Turbine NDT techniques.
